This article widens scope to three units—objects (S3 data across regions/buckets), hybrid files (on-prem NAS/tape to cloud), entire workloads (running servers bootable elsewhere). Three have different targets and mechanisms but share one question: "When original disappears, where can we restart?" Answered by async replication (S3), cache-backed gateway (Storage Gateway), continuous data protection (DRS).
